Tutors & Course Founders

Course Founders Jude Davis and Lindsay Woodman were neighbours in the late 1980’s when they lived in the mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales.

It was here that Lindsay became a ‘doula’ for Jude before they knew the word existed.

This was the start of a long a fruitful friendship, which has lead the the creation of this course.

Lindsay Woodman is a holistic aromatherapist, consultant and international examiner with over 20 years experience
Lindsay Woodman: Aromatherapist, BA, MIFA, LLSA.

Lindsay’s four daughters were born at home, when few women gave birth out of a hospital environment. She deeply understands the need for safe, calm and emotionally supported labour environments.

She became an Active Birth Teacher in 1985. Interested in healing and herbalism she trained with the London School of Aromatherapy, qualifying with distinction as an International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) accredited Holistic Aromatherapist in 1997.

Lindsay’s early work included aromatherapy in hospice care, mental health provision, producing botanical products, running her own practice and local aromatherapy workshops.  Teacher training followed to enable her to train students up to IFA accredited professional diploma level.  Lindsay’s Mermaid Spa, in Portmeirion, North Wales opened in 2009, enabling her to employ therapists she had trained herself to provide top quality individualised care.

Having moved to Wiltshire in 2015, Lindsay is now a practicing therapist, botanical perfumer, consultant, tutor and international examiner for the International Federation of Aromatherapists.

Jude Davis is a practicing and award winning midwife.
Jude Davis: Midwife, RM, BSc, BA.

Positive experience of the home births of her three children inspired Jude’s midwifery journey.  She built up a CV with bereavement counselling training and nurse training which was consolidated by working in Bangor, Guernsey and London.  Eventually qualifying as a midwife in 2008 Jude spent her first 5 years of midwifery in Aberystwyth before moving to London to work in a freestanding midwife-led unit.

Jude has worked in community, hospital and birth centre settings, and more recently spent a year as the sole midwife for the Isles of Scilly.

A passion to learn and an enjoyment for writing landed her a role as roving reporter for her favourite midwifery journal, Jude spent all her spare time for several years attending midwifery study days, conferences and workshops.

These travels also informed the content of the Active Birth Workshop that she has developed and shares currently with as many couples, midwives and students as she can.

Jude continues to write reflective articles to share her extensive practical knowledge. Jude has picked up four nursing and midwifery awards along this journey, reflecting the commitment and passion she brings to her work.
